Coming Soon: Transcending Vision

I may be posting a little less often in the coming weeks. At the moment I'm working hard on various finishing touches to my upcoming book, Transcending Vision: Christian Theology in an Age of Empiricism, with a Foreword by Dr. Ernest Musekiwa.

I've written books before, but I'm more excited about this project than most. I believe that when someone like me writes for God's glory, well, God is glorified.

Welcome

"Keeping Church Simple" is the blog for Simple Church of Katy (Texas). As a basic ("no frills") house church, we typically will meet in homes, but may occasionally gather in a restaurant or a park outdoors. We have no budgets, no worship team, no youth programs, and no paid staff. All we have is faith in Jesus Christ, and love for one another.

We encourage everyone among us (including women and young adults) to discover their gifts and exercise those gifts in the body wherever and whenever we assemble. We hold as our mission to preach the gospel of Christ and his kingdom, to teach and train disciples, to multiply and to plant new house churches. At the same time we hold as our responsibility to feed the flock of God, and to provide a safe haven for those in distress and facing hardship.

We believe the New Testament church to be a highly fluid, diverse, and constantly growing enterprise, built and led exclusively by Jesus Christ himself, of which we are but a small and singular expression. We believe, then, that God alone builds one church, and Jesus Christ is its only head. That said, we pray for the larger body of Christ and seek to cooperate, rather than compete, with other congregations.

We believe the twenty-first century church (ourselves included!) desperately needs to learn, or re-learn, the value of unceasing, heartfelt prayer, of genuine friendship borne of shared faith in the only Savior, of the inspired truth of Scripture, and of reverence for our God, the creator of heaven and earth.
